1. Reykjavik, Iceland
Iceland is pretty much the definition of "safety first"—low crime, high gender equality and people who are more likely to help you find your way than give you a hard time. Reykjavik itself is compact and easy to get around, and let’s not forget the jaw-dropping landscapes that make you feel like you’re on another planet (hello, Northern Lights!).
While you’re there: Take a relaxing dip in the famous Blue Lagoon. It's like a spa day on steroids (so I hear) with geothermal hot waters, silica mud masks and a drink in hand.
2. Kyoto, Japan
When it comes to solo travel safety, Japan is basically the gold standard. Kyoto, with its ancient temples and zen gardens, is like stepping into a peaceful dream. It’s quiet, orderly and oh-so-welcoming, so wandering around solo is not only safe but incredibly serene. Plus, the public transportation system is spot-on so there’s no need to worry about getting lost, unless you’re travelling with me.
While you’re there: Try your hand at a traditional tea ceremony. It’s a calming, cultural experience where you’ll get to try out your best “I’m totally zen” face while sipping matcha.
3. Lisbon, Portugal
Lisbon is a solo female traveler’s playground. The vibe is lively yet relaxed, the food is ridiculously good (pass the pasteis de nata, please!), and the locals are genuinely friendly. There’s a rich mix of culture, history and modern flair. Whether you’re hiking up hills or hopping on a tram, Lisbon’s got your back with safety and charm.
While you’re there: Go on a sunset tram ride through the city’s historic neighborhoods. The views are stunning and the route might just lead you to a hidden gem of a bar for an evening cocktail (and more pasteis de nata)!
4. Copenhagen, Denmark
Copenhagen is a little slice of heaven for solo travelers. It's small enough to navigate without feeling overwhelmed but packed with things to do. It’s consistently ranked one of the safest cities in the world, the locals are some of the friendliest people you’ll meet, and the city’s obsession with sustainability and cycling culture means you can easily explore at your own pace.
While you’re there: Rent a bike and cruise around the city like a true Copenhagen local. Stop by the colorful harbor Nyhavn, enjoy a cold brewski and just soak in the Danish "hygge" vibes.
5. Melbourne, Australia
Melbourne is like the cool, artsy cousin of the Australian cities — super safe, ultra diverse, and full of things to discover (like where Chris Hemsworth lives). Whether you’re wandering through laneways filled with street art, checking out the latest festival, or people-watching at a café that has the best flat white, it’s a city that simply feels alive.
While you’re there: Explore the hidden street art laneways, the open-air galleries with murals everywhere. Bonus points if you sip a coffee from one of the quirky cafes along the way. Extra bonus points if you do actually find out where Chris Hemsworth lives.
6. Vancouver, Canada
Imagine a place where you can hike in the morning, visit an art gallery in the afternoon and end the day with dinner on a beach. That’s Vancouver in a nutshell. It’s one of North America’s safest cities, wrapped in stunning natural beauty, making it the perfect place for solo adventures.
While you’re there: Take a leisurely stroll through Stanley Park, the lush green oasis right in the heart of the city. Or, kick it up a notch by renting a bike and cruising along the Seawall for stunning waterfront views.
7. Barcelona, Spain
Barcelona is an incredible mix of city vibes, beach days and history lessons. It’s walkable, welcoming and the food is drool-worthy. Spain is known for its laid-back lifestyle, so you’ll feel comfortable and safe as you explore everything from Gaudí’s masterpieces to tapas bars buzzing with life.
While you’re there: Spend a lazy afternoon at Park Güell and get lost in its whimsical mosaics and panoramic views of the city, then follow it up with sangria and tapas at a nearby restaurant.
8. Edinburgh, Scotland
Edinburgh is a small city with big character. It’s easy to get around on foot, so you can explore at your own pace, and the locals are about as friendly as they come. Whether you’re learning about Scottish history at the Castle or hiking up Arthur’s Seat for a breathtaking view of the city, you’ll feel safe and inspired by the charm of this magical place.
While you’re there: Take a ghost tour through the Royal Mile for a fun mix of spooky stories and historical tidbits. You’ll wander the cobblestone streets after dark, learning about Edinburgh’s eerie past and maybe even spotting a few ghosts along the way (say hi to Sean Connery for me).
9. Bali, Indonesia
Bali is the ultimate destination for solo female travelers looking to mix wellness with wanderlust. The island’s stunning landscapes, tranquil beaches and spiritual energy make it the perfect place for reflection, relaxation or adventure. It doesn't matter if you're meditating at a temple or getting ready to hang ten, you’ll feel completely at ease here.
While you’re there: Spend a day at one of Bali’s wellness retreats. Whether it’s yoga, detoxing or spa treatments, you’ll leave feeling like a new person. If you’re feeling adventurous, try a surf lesson in Kuta where the gentle waves make it easy for you to catch your first wave.
