You might have heard of "No-Shave November" or "Movember" online but not fully understood what it was. This movement started in 2003 in response to the growing rates of men receiving a prostate cancer diagnosis and the mental health crisis among them. Though this began in Australia, Movember has become an internationally-recognized organization, is deeply involved with countless men's health charities and has partnered with plenty of household brands to help spread the word.
So what does not shaving have to do with this? By participating in No-Shave November, men are growing out their facial hair and donating their typical monthly grooming budget towards men's mental and physical health charities. Women can participate too, with many choosing to put the razor away for the month and letting their leg and armpit hair grow out as well.
In addition to growing a 'stache, there are other ways to get involved. Participate in the Move for Mental Health and remember the 60 men lost to mental health struggles globally every hour by simply running or walking 60 miles and tracking it on the Movember app.
Or you can host a Mo-ment! Get your friends and family around. Host an event that raises awareness and funds for men’s health and again, download the app to access Movember’s Host Toolkit for all the party prep ideas.
As an organization, Movember is dedicated to helping fund men's health charities and funds over 1,250+ projects in 20 countries to spread the word. The projects can all be found here on their website, so you can learn more about the work they are putting in and other organizations that you could donate to. While you're there, check out the stories of real men whose lives are intertwined with Movember and their work.
