1. Set the Mood
When you arrive at your hotel on normal vacations, you instantly feel a sense of relaxation and start to unwind. In order to set the mood for a staycation, you should make your home feel as similar to a hotel as possible. If you're with the whole fam, consider setting up a cozy sleep area for everyone to lounge in. Light some candles, take a relaxing bath and queue up a movie while enjoying your favorite takeout meal on fancy plates.
2. Plan Activities
Just like you would plan activities and excursions for a vacation, planning out some fun activities to do during your staycation is essential. Whether it's trying out a new recipe or taking a virtual cooking class, going on a new hike in your area or venturing out to a local farmer's market, having a loose schedule will help make the most of your time off.
3. Get Outside!
Most of us spend the majority of our time outdoors while on vacation, so being conscious of this on your staycation will divert you from your normal routine. Whether it's gardening, heading to a nearby beach, going for a bike ride or simply enjoying a cup of coffee on your porch, fresh air and sunshine will make you feel like you're experiencing a true staycation.
4. Have a Picnic
Head out to your backyard or venture out to a nearby park to set up a picnic. Pack a charcuterie board, sandwiches, some drinks and a sweet treat to enjoy a leisurely afternoon with your favorite book or music. If you have kiddos with you, bring an outdoor craft to entertain them will enjoying your picnic.
5. Create a Camping Night
Whether you're open to sleeping in a tent in the backyard or want to crash inside, setting up a camping night from home is the ultimate summer staycation activity. After having a fresh barbecue dinner, set up a bonfire to make s'mores, stargaze and bundle up with your favorite summer movie.
6. Local Classes or Workshops
There's a good chance your area has local classes and workshops to sign up for that you've never heard of. Whether it's pottery, a new fitness class or a cooking workshop, sign up for something that expands your skills while also helping you relax into your staycation.
