Before Rome: Where You've Seen the Cast of “Gladiator II”

Paul Mescal steps into the leading role of Lucius Verus, the son of Lucilla and nephew of Commodus. Best known for his breakout performance in “Normal People,” Mescal has since starred in films like “Aftersun” and “All of Us Strangers.”

Pedro Pascal plays Marcus Acacius, a Roman general who faces Lucius in the arena. Pascal is a fan-favorite actor known for his roles in “The Game of Thrones,” “Narcos” and the critically acclaimed show, “The Last of Us.”

Connie Nielsen reprises her role as Lucilla, the powerful empress and symbol of a nobler time in Rome. Nielsen has previously starred in “Wonder Woman,” “Nobody” and “Origin.”

Joseph Quinn portrays Emperor Geta, one of the film’s twin rulers and antagonists. After his scene-stealing work as Eddie Munson in “Stranger Things,” Quinn was cast in “A Quiet Place: Day One,” and the upcoming “Fantastic Four” movie.

Fred Hechinger takes on the role of Emperor Caracalla who shares power with his twin, Geta. Hechinger has also appeared in the “Fear Street” trilogy, “The White Lotus” and “Thelma.”

Derek Jacobi returns as Gracchus, bringing his seasoned acting skills to the table. Jacobi is best known for his work on the stage and screen in projects such as “Hamlet,” “Othello” and “The King’s Speech.”

Lior Raz plays Viggo, the merciless gladiator trainer. Raz is known as the star and co-creator of the Netflix series “Fauda.”

Denzel Washington joins the “Gladiator” universe as Macrinus, an influential figure in Rome who wants to overthrow the emperors. Washington is an iconic actor with Oscar-winning performances in “Glory” and “Training Day,” and nominations for “Malcolm X” and “Fences.”
