1. Turn your TV into a work of art
Instead of creating new art, you can make your TV operate as the art by DIYing a frame around the screen. After mounting the TV, display whichever photos you like or photos of infamous artworks to turn your bedroom into your own gallery.
2. Mount your flowers
This DIY is as literal as it gets. Keep fresh flowers in your room and an ever-changing art piece displaying flowers by taking an empty frame, a transparent flower vase and mounting the two together.
3. Transform an outdated piece into modern art
All you have to do for this DIY is run to your local Goodwill, purchase some old art you don’t mind covering and gather supplies of filler and paint. The rest, as demonstrated in the video, is up to you. You can create textured patterns and add color using any method you choose. No matter the method you select, you can’t go wrong with this project.
4. Make use of old Trader Joe’s bags
Pull that stack of TJ's bags out from the corner of your pantry; you can finally use them. Although this DIY requires a pattern or picture in mind to paint, the Trader Joe's bags add some extra texture and dimension to whichever art you choose to paint. After that, all you'll need is a clear picture frame, and you are good to go.
5. Utilize cardboard and filler for texture
Love the modern art look? You can recreate pieces that look like they belong in a home staging by using cardboard, geometry and some filler. Lay cardboard down on the canvas to create a 3D art effect and plaster it with some filler to seal it and make the new canvas uniform. Then, all you have to do is frame the piece and add color if you fancy.
6. Source prints and art pieces online
Not everyone has the time, skills or energy to complete Bob Ross-level work, which is okay. An alternate DIY option is to purchase or download pieces online for print, get them printed yourself and simply frame them. This way, you can create a gallery wall or some pieces to hang around your room for a fraction of the cost and crafting effort.
7. Stick to simple paintings
You don’t have to be Picasso to create art worth hanging. Take some colors you like and make lines, shapes or basic silhouettes of objects on a canvas. Then, to make the piece look more expensive, assemble your own wooden frame. The finished look will appear like you purchased it straight from an art gallery.
