TikTok creator @SydneyPurl showed us that it’s OK to think
outside of the beauty box. With her “Makeup Has No Rules” series, she mixes up the
expected formula and uses products we’d never thought of in places we didn’t
expect. Tattoo brow as liner on the lips? Lipstick on the cheeks? Her results are striking, and it got us thinking how else we could
misbehave with makeup.
2. Put eyeliner everywhere.
Purl
uses eyeliner as contour, blush, lip liner and more. After a good blend, it's
dramatic and defined, but it works.
3. Eyelash curlers make great rulers.
To shade contour and shadow in precise lines and to plump up
lips, Purl uses a lash curler for angles and pinching.
4. Concealer can be foundation.
Concealer can cover more than just undereye circles. This
creator adds it to her cheeks, too, but it can go anywhere you need coverage or
definition.
5. What's the difference between lipstick and blush, really?
There are lots of cream blush and lip combo sticks now, so it
just makes sense that a few dots of lipstick on the cheeks can blend out to a
pretty flush. With the range of lipstick shades available, you’ll have access
to more shades than you can imagine.
6. Floss your lids.
Flossers are the perfect way to mark out your winged liner if your hands aren't steady.
7. Pimple patches are for more than just pimples.
Build your makeup on top of pimple patches and when you peel them away, you're left with a delightful ghost of a shape.
8. Concealer plus lipstick equals blush.
To color match your lipstick and blush, mix lipstick and concealer and put on cheeks. The concealer makes the color less sheer and will stay put even better.
9. Mix foundation right in the palm of your hand.
We've been putting foundation on the back of our hands to apply it with a brush, but according to this clip, flip your hand over and put it into your palm, which has no pores for the product to sink into (true!). You can also use the soles of your feet, but don't.
10. Put your liner on your finger.
Still having a hard time getting the perfect eyeliner wing? Draw on your finger and smudge from the corner of your eye, out. It makes the perfect cat eye swoop.
11. Tap the other end of the blush brush.
We were always taught to tap the blush brush bristles side down to get rid of excess product. Instead, tap the other end (bristles side up) and the extra powder goes into the bristles to be gradually distributed.
12. This is the best blush application, hands down.
Use your whole hand to apply your blush. The area between your thumb and forefinger is like a giant stencil for your face.
