1. Foster your green thumb
Houseplants have all kinds of benefits, one of them being that they naturally clean up the air in your home (to a degree). But clean air = clean-smelling air, so it's worth creating a mini greenhouse in your home for some literal fresh air.
2. Vodka.
Hear us out: Vodka is a bit of natural deodorizer. Simply fill up a spray bottle (maybe something besides the top shelf spirit) and hit spots that need a little love.
3. Build an indoor herb garden
While plants help purify the air, herbs lend a subtle, natural scent to your home without being overbearing. If you're keen on cooking with fresh herbs anyway, create a set-up on your kitchen windowsill of the classics — mint, rosemary, basil — that can serve dual purpose.
4. "Bake" your carpet
Baking soda truly does it all. Sprinkle some onto high-traffic areas of your carpeting that could use a little TLC in between more heavy-duty carpet cleaning services. It'll lift up any odor left behind from dirty sneakers, dumped sports equipment, that pile of laundry that only got halfway to the washer — you name it.
5. Trash can dryer sheet
One of the biggest sources of odor in your home is undoubtedly the trash can, no matter how frequently you empty it. Mitigate as much as possible in between clean-outs with a simple hack: a dryer sheet on the bottom.
6. Wash a lemon
You probably already use the trick of grinding up citrus peels in your garbage disposal — and if not, you're welcome! But make that lemon go further by giving it a wash first. If you throw a few slices in the dishwasher before running, the hot water will activate the citrus and leave your kitchen smelling fresh and clean.
