The event that started it all. YouTuber Anthony Po had the idea to hold a Timothée Chalamet lookalike contest on October 27 with a $50 prize. Hundreds of fans gathered in Washington Square Park to attend and compete, but the biggest twist was when Chalamet himself showed up. This moment sparked a trend that has since taken over TikTok and inspired lookalike contests worldwide.
2. Paul Mescal in Dublin
The contests went global as young, Irish men recreated Paul Mescal’s typical workout attire of short gym shorts, hoodie and wired earbuds. The “Gladiator II” star did not appear in Smithfield Square, but the winner Jack Wall O’Reilly had the chance to speak with Mescal on BBC Radio 2.
3. Harry Styles in London
In SoHo Square, curly-haired Londoners competed to see who looked the most like Harry Styles. Ironically, the winner was also a British musician, Oscar Journeaux.
4. Tyla in Cape Town
A Tyla lookalike contest took place in her home country of South Africa on November 9. The singer has grown to be a global sensation, with contestants showing their best interpretation of her confidence and dance moves.
5. Dev Patel in San Francisco
On November 10, hundreds of people showed up to see which Dev Patel lookalike would come out on top. While we may not have found a perfect match to the “Monkey Man” director’s looks, fans had plenty of fun together dancing and doing impressions.
6. Jeremy Allen White in Chicago
Another major lookalike contest took place on November 16 in Chicago, this time centered around the “Shameless” and “The Bear” actor, Jeremy Allen White. Contestants arrived in their Carmy-inspired blue aprons attracting an audience of over a thousand attendees.
7. Zayn Malik in Brooklyn
At this point of the lookalike craze, the internet began to see that some celebrities are truly one-of-one. Many believed that the finalists did not resemble the singer, but were simply good-looking people. The search for a Zayn Malik clone continues, but in the meantime, Shiv Patel is the judges’ pick.
8. Zendaya in Oakland
On November 20 in Oakland, California, dozens of fans came out in the rain to see who would win the title of “Miss Zendaya.” An Oakland native, movie star and ruler of the red carpet, Zendaya captivates crowds with her energy and chic fashion. Her lookalike winner, Zainab Bansfield, has been a fan of Zendaya since her days on Disney Channel and was honored that attendees saw Zendaya’s energy in her.
