1. Koh Phi Phi, Thailand
Thailand is already a relatively budget-friendly travel destination (minus the plane tickets), and this island is an essential place to spend time if you plan to visit anytime soon. With plenty of activities, pristine beaches lined with white sand and colorful coral reefs, you’ll feel like you walked onto the set of “White Lotus” season three.
2. Palawan, Philippines
While in Southeast Asia, you may want to head to this island in the Philippines. Like Koh Phi Phi, you’ll be surrounded by picturesque beaches and lush greenery. It also doesn’t hurt that this island, in particular, is considered one of the cheapest in the Pacific.
3. Zakynthos, Greece
This Grecian island is a must-stay if you’re in the mood for a Mediterranean, gyro-filled summer. You can enjoy serene and charming Greek villages, olive gardens or a handful of impressive caves like the Navagio and Blue Caves.
4. Sicily, Italy
A cheap Italian vacation doesn’t seem like a reality, but it is when you stay on one of the islands, like the infamous Sicily. Enjoy the piazzas of Palermo or ancient ruins, hike near the active volcano Mount Etna or play it safe and chill near the beautiful turquoise waters with a Negroni in hand.
5. Kauai, Hawaii
Cheap Hawaiian islands, say what? Kauai, also known as “The Garden Isle,” is full of breathtaking flora, fauna and natural attractions, such as the Nā Pali Coast, which are 100 percent free of charge. The optimal months to visit and save are between March and June. However, you can still find reasonable tickets and accommodation after.
6. Madeira, Portugal
Portugal is one of the cheaper European countries to visit, and this island off its coast was one of its best-kept secrets until it recently started getting attention on social media. Don’t fret, though; it’s still relatively low in terms of tourism, and you can enjoy most of the golden beaches of Porto Santo, the central city, without an overwhelming amount of other tourists.
7. St. Kitts
This island in the West Indies has 18 miles of breathtaking beaches, rainforests and wildlife. Enjoy all it has to offer, from one of the best summer musical festivals in the Caribbean to traditional rum-making. It may be tiny, but it contains all of the best island features and then some.
8. Jamaica
While there are plenty of overpriced resorts on the island, Jamaica also offers several affordable guest houses and hostels if you plan your accommodations well. Relax on the white sandy beaches of Montego Bay or enjoy some free to low-cost excursions like hiking Blue Mountain Peak or exploring the Bob Marley Museum.
