1. "& Juliet"
Have you watched "Schitt's Creek" about a billion times over? Then "& Juliet" is your next obsession. David West Read, who wrote your favorite Canadian comedy, is behind the book, and the music should be veryyy familiar — meaning, they're all major pop hits. Think "Since U Been Gone," "Baby One More Time," "Larger Than Life" and more. The story goes that instead of the tragic end to Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet," Juliet lives on and gets a second chance at love on her own terms. Oh, and *NSYNC's Joey Fatone will be featured in the NYC show's cast from January to March of next year. Sold!
2. "Suffs"
If you're not overstimulated by American democracy these days, go out and see "Suffs!" Tony Award-winning composer Shaina Taub wrote, composed and stars in a show set in 1913 as the women's rights movement in the U.S. begins its journey to the 19th Amendment. Women's empowerment gets the crowd going!
3. "Hadestown"
Do you know the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice? Like most stories in Greek mythology, it's a bit of a tragedy, but it's made more fun when you put the songs of Anaïs Mitchell's book behind it. The charismatic-as-all-hell Jordan Fisher is our current Orpheus on Broadway, so we suggest splurging for that show, but it's a blast either way!
4. "Aladdin"
Disney on Broadway just feels right, and with the star power of the Genie leading the way — played by Michael James Scott — you can't go wrong with the songs and story you know and love. And not to worry — the magic carpet is just as magical on a live stage.
5. "SIX: The Musical"
Calling all history buffs! "SIX" reimagines what would have happened to the six wives of King Henry VIII if he, you know, hadn't divorced or had them killed. It's very girl-power heavy, with a Best Original Score Tony Award®-winning book by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss.
