Charli XCX’s latest album, “Brat,” has not only been the
talk of the music world but has also been a huge aesthetic influence this
summer, thanks to its chartreuse, black, silver and white palette, harkening
back to the Y2K-era.
Charli describes the Brat vibe as that of a messy, carefree
party girl, but it’s come to mean more than that, bleeding into politics and
pop culture, embodying strong women.
One of Charli’s muses was model and singer Gabriette Bechtel,
whom she name-checks in her lead single “360.” She’s an influencer known for her
‘90s goth girl look, with skinny eyebrows and an overlined lip.
This makeup tutorial combines the green brat summer girl look
blowing up on TikTok with a hearty helping of Gabriette’s style for the perfect makeup tutorial for summer and beyond. Here’s how creator Lila Childs does a full face of Brat.
2. Skinny Brows
Comb those brows into a thin line and make them stay put with e.l.f. cosmetics Soap Brow.
3. Prime Time
Priming the skin is key for this flawless, satiny finish.
Hit the t-zone (nose and forehead) with Iconic London Velvet Smooth Pore-Refining Primer.
4. Tint the Skin
Lila says the makeup on your skin should be “barely there,”
so lightly brush on a skin perfecting serum with light coverage, like Typeology Tinted Serum.
5. Perfection, But Make It Attainable
Don’t conceal under eyes, but instead use Kosas Revealer Concealer to perfect any blemishes. Use your fingers, not a brush, to stretch and blend
into skin.
6. Bonjour, Contour
Work those angles by swiping on a contour stick like Westman Atelier Face Trace Contour Stick. Hit under the cheekbones, jawline, the sides
of your nose and your hairline. Blend
up and out with a brush.
7. You're Blushing, But Not What You're Thinking
Take a blush like Kaleidos Mono Blush in Hot Shot and do not
add it to your cheeks. Instead, add it to your eye as step one. It will be your transition shade between lid and upper lid.
8. Eyes All Over
Now take a neutral eye palette like Makeup by Mario Master Mattes Neutral Eyeshadow Palette. Use a blue grey shade on the eyelid, bringing it out to a smoky wing.
Use a neutral shade in the crease, and a white shade at the brow bone.
9. Smoke the Line
Now for the liner and you don’t want a liquid here. Use Stila Stay All Day Smudge Set Waterproof Gel Eyeliner in Stingray. Swipe alone
the upper and lower waterline and smudge a smoky little wing with your finger.
It’s subtle and sexy.
10. Now for the brat
Time to add the brat to this look. Grab a bright green shadow,
like Chanel Stylo Ombre et Contour in Dreamleaf. Swipe a sheer layer all over
the lid, less for a hint of color, or heavy for big brat energy.
11. Chromatica Line
For the lower lash, add a hint of pinky chrome liner with Kaleidos Epiphany Glow Melt-On Liner from in Tourmaline. It adds more definition and
contrasting color.
12. Choose Your Own Mascara Adventure
Lila does not mention a specific mascara, but any of Essence Cosmetics stunning formulas would be best for this job.
13. Set It
Time to lock in your hard work with a sheer setting powder like Fenty Invisamatte Instant Setting and Blotting Powder.
14. Like a Warm Blush
Now it’s time to add color to the cheeks with a warm shade.
Lila uses Kaleidos Symphony Contour Trio Contour. She also goes back in with Kaleidos Blush in Hotshot under her eyes.
15. A Little Kiss
Kiss the cheeks with Chanel Baume Essentiel in Moonlight Kiss as a highlighter above cheekbones.
16. Lip Service
Line the lips with a darker shade like Makeup Forever Artist Color Pencil in Endless Cacao.
17. Gloss Boss
Top the liner with a nude gloss like Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip Velvet from in Peachy Nude.
18. The Finishing Touch
For the last step, add a sheer brown layer like Rhode Skin Peptide Lip Tint in Espresso. So very, very brat.
