1. Warner Brothers Studio Hollywood
One of the best traditional movie studio tours in California, this tour takes you to sets of shows like "Friends" and "Gilmore Girls" as well as movies from "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter" and the DC Universe. You can also choose the length, from a half day to a full day of exploration. Don't forget to snap a selfie at the "Friends" fountain and grab a latte at Central Perk.
2. Paramount Studio Tour Hollywood
Pick either two, three or four hours to see the backlots, the iconic Bronson gate, and even studio archives on the VIP tours. You never know who you're going to walk by, be it Tom Cruise or Bumblebee from "Transformers."
3. Sony Pictures Studio Tour Hollywood
Not only will you see soundstages for movies like “The
Wizard of Oz” and “Spider-Man,” but Sony is also the home to game shows like “Jeopardy!”
and “Wheel of Fortune” and series like “Breaking Bad.” Is that Walter White off
in the distance?
4. Universal Studios Hollywood
This studio is a theme park, but it is still a working studio you can take a one-hour tram ride through to see iconic sets like "Jaws" and "King Kong." You might get attacked and have the sets blow up around you, but it's all part of the fun.
5. WB Studio Tour London
Harry Potter fans need to flock to this London-adjacent studio where the massive sets for the film series are housed. There are also props, costumes, special effects and, most importantly, butterbeer.
6. Atlas Film Studios Morocco
Billed as Moroccan Hollywood, you might recognize the locations of “Gladiator,” “Prince of Persia” and “Game of Thrones.” If it was a
biblical epic, chances are it was filmed here. While you explore the backstages
with a guide, you may just stumble upon the newest production.
7. Weta Workshop Auckland and Wellington
"Lord of the Rings" and "Avatar" fans will love this New Zealand-based special effects company where there are two experiences to choose
from. At the Auckland branch, you can tour effects, props and sets. In Wellington, get
an immersive experience in the workshop. In the gift shop, purchase some of the
cool props you saw that day.
8. Cinecittà Rome
You can visit this Rome studio to see a sampling of sets and an image museum, or you can venture out on a tour of the city where famous sites are part of the film — the most permanent set of them all.
