Last week, on June 5, Apple hosted its annual Worldwide Developers Conference. Whether a consumer of the news or an avid social media user, most people have seen at least a couple snippets of the conference or teasers for the technology revealed at it. One of the biggest reveals was the Apple Vision Pro, a spatial computer that Apple boasts is “years ahead and unlike anything created before.” This particular reveal is similar to the Oculus headsets we already know and love in that it is a three-dimensional technology you wear on your head. Unlike other technologies we’ve seen before, it allows you to interact with content as if you were in the room with whatever you view. It’s set to be available for purchase in early 2024.
Here is what it looks like:
For anyone on TikTok or Instagram, it also did not take long for users of those platforms to begin making memes out of this reveal. With users utilizing the trailer for the product and editing clips from movie scenes, they wish they could be physically present to experience it. TikTok user @janny shared this clip, editing it to say, “Me dropping $3.5k on Apple Vision Pros so I can pretend Mr. Darcy is walking up towards me.”
Here’s the clip to also get a feel of how the new headsets are supposed to operate:
Although the Apple Vision Pro has taken over social media by storm, plenty of other updates and releases from the conference are noteworthy. For iPhone users, the new IOS 17 update will make the phone user experience much more personable, including leaving missed Facetime voicemails, contact cards that other iPhone users can scan to get a new person’s number and contact info and a new Apple Journal App for expressing daily gratitude and mindfulness. This new approach Apple is taking with this upcoming update seems to be shifting the technology towards more interpersonal connection rather than the isolation phones previously have made some people feel.
Other releases include the new Macbook Air 15.3-inch entitled “The World Best 15-Inch Laptop,” released just this last week on June 13th, and FaceTime coming to Apple TV. There are plenty of other software updates for Apple Watch users, owners of iPads and Apple Computers, which can all be found here at Apple Newsroom.
