1. Eat Less Meat
Many components of raising livestock for meat lead to higher greenhouse gas emissions that warm the planet, from the fertilizers necessary to grow food for livestock to the methane these animals release. Raising livestock also requires a lot of land and water. Meat consumption has increased significantly in recent decades, but just by cutting back or completely removing meat from your diet can make a difference.
Try Meatless Mondays or adopt a vegetarian or vegan diet for the new year, instead focusing on other sources of protein like legumes or soy. You can also try out a “flexitarian diet” where plants are the focal point of your meals, and meat is an occasional treat. Find an option that works for you — and the planet.
